RUNWAY - EPHEMERAL ARCHITECTURE
Faculdade de arquitetura ULisboa, 4th year 1st semester, Autumn 24
Location: Faculdade de arquitetura Universidade de Lisboa
Finding beauty in the fleeting & time as a resource.                                                      Ephemeral architecture is designed to exist for a limited period of time. It is about freeing oneself from the idea that buildings must be permanent to have value. The beauty lies in its fleeting and spontaneous nature. It is not the duration of a structure that gives it value, but the experience of its presence in a specific moment. It allows for experimentation with materials and forms, and for creating unique experiences, as well as how we use space and relate to architecture in the short term. In contrast to the eternal, the temporary can be experienced as more authentic, more direct – when we know something won’t last forever, the experience become more intense, beautiful, and memorable.
Materials as the mirrored roof and fabrict in the exhibition area are used to play with the idea of the architecture beeing ”fleeting” itself. The mirror reflects the looks and people inhabiting the space, making the architecture constantly changing depending on whats happening underneath the roof.
The steel truss construction follows the rythm of the school building. The shape of te benches brakes up the space and allows for more dynamic movements on the runway. The fabric in the exhibition space allows for light to enter the space during the day, and lights from the inside to light up the space around during the night.
A modular construction that can be partially dismantled. After the show and exhibition, the idea is for the benches to remain, giving them a function beyond the show itself.
